Where the battery actually is

Unlike most cars, opening the bonnet on a van doesn't always show you the battery. Knowing roughly where it sits helps set expectations for access time.

Under a front seat

Common on many panel vans. The seat base usually needs to be tilted or removed to reach the battery, which takes longer than a bonnet release.

Under the cab floor

Some layouts place the battery beneath a floor panel or a plastic cover in the footwell, held by fixings rather than a simple latch.

In or behind the step

Larger vans and minibuses sometimes house the battery behind the entry step or a side panel, which needs a trim tool or fixings removed rather than being freely accessible.

Remote jump posts

Depot access rules

Many depots require sign-in, ID, or advance notice to let an outside vehicle onto site. If your van is inside a depot, check what is needed to get a vehicle in before assistance is arranged.

Can you jump start a van with a 24V system?
Tell us the exact vehicle when you get in touch. Some larger commercial vehicles use 24V starting systems that need the correct equipment, and we confirm what can be attended before anyone travels rather than turning up unable to help.

Can you attend vans on a construction site or in a depot?

My van battery goes flat overnight — is a jump start enough?
A jump start may get the van running, but a battery that repeatedly goes flat is signalling a battery, drain or charging fault. Getting it investigated is cheaper than losing another working day.
